I recently had a lovely brunch at JUICY LADIES restaurant in Woodland Hills, CA. However, the real juice was getting the inside scoop about skin care from licensed esthetician Jennifer Marenstein who is the owner of SKIN CARE by JENNIFER.

Jennifer’s studio is located in a home environment in Woodland Hills, CA.  Her clients love it because it’s a warm, inviting and nurturing sanctuary where they can truly decompress. They also love the privacy and intimacy.

Skin Tips from Jennifer Marenstein of SKIN CARE BY JENNIFER

“Our skin is the showcase of what’s going on inside our bodies. Our skin is our largest eliminatory organ and is intricately tied to the overall health of our bodies. And not just our face skin, our whole body. There’s no big secret or magic pill out there for having and maintain great skin. It’s really simple.  

So here are my tips for great skin this fall and ALL year round.

1) Eat as much LIVE and RAW food as possible. We are what we eat….literally. Our bodies use the nutrients, enzymes, fiber and vitamins in the food we eat for digestion, repairs, healing, fueling and to stay young, to mention a few things.There’s a large body of scientific evidence explaining the advantages of live food. It’s regenerating, revitalizing and full of nutrients and minerals. 

2) Maintain a healthy lifestyle. I won’t go into details saying what kind of damage smoking brings to viscera but the skin suffers from it considerably. If you smoke, do not dream about young, rosy, glowing skin. It will lose its natural color due to the change of the skin pigmentation. To make it look natural you will have to put on more and more make-up until one day you understand that it’s impossible to cover that unnatural yellow-greyish facial skin color.


3) Get plenty of sleep. It isn’t possible to make up for lack of sleep. We should all be getting at least 7-8 hours and at a comfortable temperature. Our bodies and our brains need it.
 

4) This is by all means one of the most important tips! SUNBLOCK. Of course we need a little sun to absorb that wonderful vitamin D. (it’s the best way to get it) 20 minutes a day on your arms, legs, anywhere but your face. And not just any sunblock. The Environmental Working Group did a study on sunblocks and found that most of the ones on the market today are more hazardous that the sun. For advice on the safest sunblocks check out ewg.org.

5) Exercise. To prevent disease, keep your heart healthy and  to avoid depression; get 30 minutes or more of moderate-intensity exercise, five or more days a week. Even if it’s walking, it’s  about getting out there and being active.

6) Drink water. Many people spend their days in a state of mild dehydration. Consuming far fewer fluids than they should. Water comprises approximately 60% of your body. It’s basic for survival. The general rule is half your body weight in ounces. For example if you weigh 120 lbs. you would want to drink 60 ounces of water a day. As I said the skin is our largest eliminatory organ. All our organs need water too. When your body is properly hydrated, you’ll look better and feel better. Adequate water also rewards you with increased energy, bright-clear eyes, a radiant complexion, flushes out nasty toxins, improves circulation and blood fglow, and lubricates your joints.

7) Last but certainly not least choose quality skin care products. I’ve been a single mom for so many years and always on a budget, but I’ve never compromised on hair and skin products. However, that doesn’t mean you have to spend a fortune on quality skin care. Understand that when buying of the shelf in a chain store, it usually means the product is full of preservatives. Choosing a smaller line usually means higher quality because they aren’t spending as much money on packaging and advertising, but rather on high grade ingredients. Check the labels!

Remember, don’t pick! I can’t stress that enough. It’s tempting but to avoid potential scarring or worse….leave it to your esthetician.     Thanks Cyndi. I have a question for Jennifer. I am 16 and have very oily skin. Sometimes I get embarrassed. I do not use moisturizer but wonder if you thought I should? thanks Jennifer for the tips.
