Shhhh! My Cyndi's Secrets!
My Dear Friends,
Hey Guys, this one’s for you! Summer is here and so I thought I would share a man’s “short” story.
Psssssst! Come with me!
Let me share My Cyndi’s Secrets!™ Shhhh! (NEW easy comment box – Please leave your feedback at the bottom)
Whether you are a Hollywood male model/actor who is familiar with the fashion runway or a regular guy from Middle America, Norway or France – Let me share My Cyndi’s Secrets to successfully wear shorts this summer. Shhhh!
Forget about all the fancy schmansy fashion-speak that means nothing.. Let me chat with you straight up about wearing shorts in “real life”!
1) Your shorts should fall just above the knee: That means not too short or you may look like a 1970’s basketball player who is a living blast from the past. Shorts should also not be too long or else they will look like short pants or man Capri’s – not cool.
2) Avoid Pleats: Pleats look fine on longer pants and slacks. However, when it comes to shorts, a flat-front is the best way to go. You want a straight line as possible from hip to the hem.
3) Never wear shorts with a sport jacket: This is a big no no! If an event is formal enough for a blazer or a sport jacket you should always wear pants. There is perhaps one exception. If you are a sailor who just won the Mackinac Island sailing race which is one of the largest fresh water sailing races in the world, by all means – get out that blazer. It’ll look great over shorts! Tee hee!
Let’s chat about basic style choices. Perhaps many of you are unaware of this. However, like it or not the way people perceive you is important. So let me keep it simple for you. Here are the top 6 must haves that can get you through the summer without embarrassing your significant other and may even score you a few points if you are in search of a girlfriend.
1) Khakis: If you get only one pair of shorts this summer make them Khakis. These Dockers from Macy’s are a must have. Guys – this is a simple no brainer. Pair your khaki shorts with any color t-shirt and you’ve got a neat classy look for many days of living easy in the summer. Just make sure they fit. If your gut is hanging out over too much over tight pants and a belt – well the living is a little too easy! 🙂
2) Dress shorts: Make your date or spouse proud at the next company picnic. I love these navy dress shorts from Brooks Brothers. Pair them with a nice summer shirt and belt and you are good to go. It says, “I’m cool, confident and care about both myself and my lady”. Yep – We girls do read a lot into the way a man dresses. Of course, you shouldn’t spend more time in the mirror then we do but a good healthy self image goes a long way to making a great impression.
3) Gym Shorts: These Under Armour men’s shorts from Dicks Sporting Goods are great for working out, running, and any athletic activity that is going to cause you to sweat. I know that women notoriously say, “Do I look fat in this”? However, fess up – men often question the size of their gut, butt etc. The cut and style of these shorts is very slimming. I’m just saying! Shhhh! 😉
4) Plaid Madras: This is a look that is not for everybody. It requires a sense of fun and adventure. Check out these Madras from L.L. Bean. Please remember to pair plaid shorts with a solid colored shirt. Stripes or a palm tree print shirt spell disaster when worn with plaid. This is one case where it is extremely important to keep it simple!
5) Swim Shorts: Sexy Speedo’s may look great on an Olympic champion but let’s face it – most men are smart if they choose to wear a suit that fits properly without showing too much. I love these Adidas swim shorts from Kohls department store. They are very forgiving and can make any man’s perfect or less than perfect body look quite sexy and masculine.
6) Cargo shorts: Many fashionista experts say that cargos have gone the way of the 90’s. I’m not so sure that I agree. Check out this pair from J.C. Penney’s. They are a modern modified cargo and are very stylish with the ever popular cargo pocket. Notice the length. They are just above the knee. Longer cargo shorts are definitely out of style especially if you are over 40. However, they can be acceptable in some outdoor sports such as sailing. I know that a lot of my guy sailor friends wear them and they look great.. They can keep you warm and may be comfortable as you work the foredeck or trim (adjust) a sail. A note to all guys – Please, Do not over stuff the pockets as that never looks cool. If you need to carry enough stuff that it weighs you down – get a messenger bag or a man purse. 🙂
So there you go guys – that is the short story on shorts! Hope this helps!
And until next time……….Strut your stuff on the red carpet of life! Shhhh!
Life is too “short” so I say – InJOY!
Love ya,
Cyndi Targosz
