Ageless Performers Shine at The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences!

( Photos and video by Erlinda Olvera unless otherwise noted )

It was a special night at The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. I was privileged to meet actors who made their debut when TV was brand new and the internet was not even a a word used in everyday conversation. These brilliant performers helped to create TV’s first “Golden Age”. The event was produced by Arthur Greenwald and inspired by the forthcoming documentary Troupers (www.TroupersTheMovie.com) by Saratoga Ballantine and Dea Lawrence. The audience of Television Academy professionals discovered what it takes to keep working through the decades of auditions, economic reversals and new technologies. The wise and very very oh so funny veterans shared their perspectives on the power of perseverance. This is a lesson that we all can value.

I was in awe of the legendary panel. It included Kaye Ballard (The Mothers-in-law, The Tonight Show), Pat Carroll (Danny Thomas Show, The Little Mermaid), Anne Jeffreys (Topper, Falcon Crest), Marvin Kaplan (Top Cat, Alice, Meet Millie), Charlotte Rae (Car 54 Where Are You?, The Facts of Life) and a very special surprise appearance by Jerry Lewis (Colgate Comedy Hour, Mating & Lewis, The Nutty Professor)

The moderator was actress Illeana Douglas (Entourage, Ugly Betty) who created wrote and stars in the hit web series Easy to Assemble.

Below is a photo of the entire panel from left to right is Kaye Ballard, Pat Carroll, Jerry Lewis, Anne Jeffreys, Illeana Douglas, Charlotte Rae, and Marvin Kaplan. (Photo credit: Phil McCarten/PictureGroup)

Jerry Lewis can still bring down the house and he did so at the academy. Everybody loves Jerry! Here is a photo of him on the panel surrounded by Pat Carroll on the left and Anne Jeffreys on the right. (Photo credit: Phil McCarten/PictureGroup)
